I disagree. I have trained in Hwa Rang Do for the past 12 years, have a
1st degree black sash, and am fairly competent in the art. Unlike many
martial arts, Hwa Rang Do does not put the stress on belt advancement
that many other styles push. The variety of techniques is amazing and
seems to cover all possible grounds, from defense against knife (my
previous belt), to joints, defense from multiple attackers, defense
from sitting, throwing, rolling, weapons (although not nearly as much
as many other arts), and an amazing array of kicks, both linear,
circular, and aerial. As far as cult like, I completely disagree. I
meditate often, but beliefs have never been imparted on me. I strongly
urge anyone to look into this art whether you are beginning or have
been through other styles. There is something for everyone.
