I have studied a number of martial arts over the years - Shorin Ryu,
Shotokan, a couple of Hapkido styles, tai chi and Kuk Sool Won. Kuk
Sool is the art I finally chose to pursue for my black belt. Compared to
the other styles I tried, Kuk Sool had a very solid curriculum so you
always new where you stood in your training. At the time I joined there
was a good visual textbook of techniques but these days there are a
whole series of great textbooks to use as a study aid.

I found Kuk Sool to have great forms, which include some nice 2 person
forms for practising distance and timing. There is a nice balance
between striking arts, self defence, weapons training and physical
conditioning. There is also a huge number of techniques which really
makes you apply your brain power. It's also nice to see a lot of
Masters who can REALLY DO the stuff...not just wear the fancy uniforms.

For a while I thought that Kuk Sool was a "Made-in-Korea-but-now-only-an
-American" art (like some others). I now stand corrected in that there
has been, and remains, a very large and growing following in Korea.

All in all I found Kuk Sool to be a very good art to study. There are
some online resources and it's easy to find if there is a school close
to you. If you were to go try a class I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
