I'd like to have a small martial arts study group ( less than 10
students ) in my living room, but the hangup seems to be with
insurance. I called one broker and they said it would cost at least
$1200 per year for this. I'm not even thinking of charging anything
for the study group.

DOes anyone know of any insurance that costs less than that, that
would allow me to do this, so my group can happen?

No, sorry I don't.

But, isn't one way around this to join some generic MA association (one of
those which has all sorts of clubs of all sorts of styles) and sign up with
their insurance deal? I think this is what a lot of clubs do

If the high cost is related to the venue, rather than the entity that is
your wee group, then perhaps just shift to a local hall?

Good luck with it

Try NAKMAS. This is who we use.

www.nakmas.co.uk/

For insurance purposes for martial arts, you should be looking at around
£15-£25 pounds per student for 1 year.

The teacher needs Additional P.I. Insurance to cover themselves for
teaching. This should be around £30-£60 pounds for 1 year.

I get my insurance from http://karateinsurance.com/

It is very reasonable with great coverage. Even if you don't charge anyone
fees, it is best to cover yourself. The liability risk that you take on
youself can bankrupt you overnigt. I believe if you have under $30
students, the cost to you would be around $475.
